Summer Freshness
In the summer time, it seems impossible to keep makeup on. It's so hot and humid that no matter what you do, the makeup just seems to slide right off your face. The key to prevent this, keep things simple and light weight. Looking at the picture above, you may think, "All that is suppose to be light?... Are you crazy?" But I promise, it feels like you're not even wearing makeup. This is a look that is so simple and truly will look good on anyone! I'll take you through step-by-step how to achieve this look.(:
You're all done! I hope you enjoy your fresh, simple summer face!(:

- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!! I use Purpose with SPF 15. It works really well for me. Just apply this all over your face, especially in any areas where you might have some dry patches. One pump should do the trick.
- Set your canvas. No matter the season, it's important to prime your face. I enjoy POREfessional by Benefit. It's really great for oily skin with large pores. It minimizes the appearance of pores, and over time it begins to rebuild the walls of your pores. Revlon Photo Ready Primer works well, too. You can either concentrate primer wherever you get oily or evenly apply it all over your face. I just rub it in all over! I don't want anything moving all day!
- Toss your foundation to the side! Go for something light like a tinted moisturizer or B.B. Cream. I have used the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer for a few years now, and I love it! It has SPF in it, so you get that little bit of extra protection, and it has a nice sheer coverage. It has a nice natural finish, so if you're looking for something that's going to keep you matte, you may want to check something else out. I don't love the price, though. So, I picked up the Garnier B.B. Cream. This is the first B.B. Cream I have tried, and I'm hooked. It has a good coverage, and it comes in all formulas for different skin types. Both of these products are super simple to apply. You can either squirt some on your finger tips and rub it on your face. This isn't my favorite way to do it, though. I like to use my BeautyBlender and just dab it on my face. I feel like this gives you a little extra coverage. You can also use a stippling brush and just rub it all over your face. It's whatever you prefer, have on hand, or have time for.(:
- Hide those dark spots and blemishes! Applying concealer in the right way can really brighten up your face and hide things you don't want anyone else to notice. I love the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. It really brightens up your face and gives good coverage. I just ran out of mine, and replaced it with something I had on hand, the CoverGirl Fresh Complexion Under-Eye Concealer. Both of these are really inexpensive and easy to find. Apply this in an upside-down triangle under your eyes. Sounds crazy, huh? Start at the inner corner of your eye, draw a line down following your nose until you get to the bottom. From there, draw a line from there from there to the bottom of your temple. Then, draw a line connecting back to the innner corner. Be sure to fill it all in. I use my BeautyBlender to blend it all in. You can use your finger, a tapered kabuki brush, just a regular sponge, whatever you want. For this look, I would suggest only putting concealer under the eyes, just to keep things bright and fresh.
- Give your brows some life! Don't do anything too crazy or bold. We're going for natural and easy. Grab your brow pencil, my preferred is the Merle Norman Automatic Brow Pencil check out my last post for a full review, and just simply outline your brows on the top and bottom. Lightly fill in the front and just brush through to blend everything in. Your brows will be noticeable, but natural.
- Make your eyes sparkle. Go for something natural, if you want to do anything at all! This part is totally optional, whatever you're feeling that day. My go to palette for a look like this is my LORAC Pro. I just use three shades and two brushes to keep it simple. In the picture above, the shades I use are numbered. The first shade is Nude, and I just sweep that on my brow bone with a flat shader brush. Next, I take a big fluffy brush and apply the shade Taupe in my crease using windshield wiper motions from outer to inner corner. On my lid, I use the other side of the same flat shader brush and put the shade Light Gold all over. It's such a simple pretty look.
- Frame your eyes. This step is totally optional as well. I am in love with the Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner. It's so creamy, and pigmented, and goes on so smooth. I use this almost every day. Just use whatever you feel most comfortable with and apply it however you feel the most comfortable. I like a little cat eye to top off my look!
- Lashes for days! No matter if you decide to wear eyeshadow or liner, mascara is a must! It just makes your eyes look so awake and open. I love Maybelline Falsies. Apply on both sides of your lashes for an extra bold look without using a ton of product. Start with your bottom lashes first, and go from root to tip. Wiggle slightly at the roots and pull through as normal. Do the same thing for the top! I would recommend two coats for your top lashes.
- Get the Glow! Bronze your face just slightly. You don't want to use too much or do any harsh lines. I would link the bronzer I use, but it was a limited edition.): It's Sol de Rio by Sephora, and it's perfect. I like to use a clean stippling brush for this. Get a little product on your brush, blend it softly on your the hollows of your cheeks right below your cheek bones. Then blend some on the sides of your forehead and by your hair line. I like to brush some on both sides of my nose.
- Blush! I like to use the blushes that come with the Forever Nude palette by bhcosmetics. For a full review, check out my first post! Use an angled contouring brush and blend it in your blush. Start by your hair line on your cheek bone and dab forward. Slowly blend it in with the top part of your bronzer and make sure there aren't any harsh lines. Just buff it around until you feel like it looks good!
- Shine bright! I like to put a highlighter on the top of my cheek bones for an extra shine. My favorite at the moment is Honeymoon by Hard Candy. I use a small contouring brush, blend it in the highlighter, and just sweep in from the middle of my eye to the middle of my temple. A tiny amount of this stuff will go a long way. You don't want to look like a disco ball.:P
- Add a pop of color! I like to throw on a bright color on my lips just to give the look a little extra flare. I love the Cupcake Buttergloss by NYX. There's no need for liner or lipstick. Just a bright pretty gloss will do the trick.
- Last but not least! Set your face! Make sure your face stays natural looking and pretty all day. Use a setting powder! I use they NYC Smooth Skin Loose Powder. It works wonders at keeping everything pretty. Just take a large powder brush, get some product on the brush, and put it where you get oily. I put mine on my t-zone and just buff it in!
You're all done! I hope you enjoy your fresh, simple summer face!(:
